MOS Sound Wall 01:00:12

about

What is this album?
Museum of Sydney Sound Wall is an audio work I made in 1996. It consists of soundscapes recorded in remnant pockets of nature (mainly preserved as parkland) in Sydney, Australia. The album was originally the audio component of a substantial video artwork comprising filmed remnant pockets of nature by artist Gary Warner. While my brief was to create a work that suggested what the Sydney region might have sounded like prior to white invasion, I decided to also include any contemporary sounds that happened to leak into the audio sound-field being recorded.

This way, not only do we hear natural sounds, but also human and machine sounds that occur within and close-by these pockets. Other sounds have been composed into the soundscape that possibly suggest that nature and culture have become melded into some kind of hybrid ecosystem. This full length CD work is divided into many detailed sections that can be experienced as either foreground or background.
